French lessons tailored to you

Everyone has their own reasons for learning French. You may want to feel more comfortable using French in everyday life in Brussels, need it for work, want to make progress quickly, or be preparing for an exam. Everyone has different goals and learns at a different pace. That’s why, at Les Zamis, we don’t follow the same fixed programme for everyone. Each lesson is adapted to your level, your pace, and your goals.

Private lessons at your own pace

Our lessons for adults are mainly private lessons. You can book one lesson at a time, so there’s no need to commit to a course lasting several months. Lessons are available one-to-one, but you can also learn with two or three people of a similar level, such as friends, family members, or colleagues.

During the first lesson, we take the time to assess your current level and talk about what you would like to achieve and the situations in which you want to use French. You don’t adapt to the lesson. The lesson adapts to you. That’s the idea behind our French lessons for adults.

Start with French you can actually use

Communication is at the heart of our lessons. By using French as much as possible, you gradually become more comfortable listening, understanding, and expressing yourself in your own words.

Learning a language shouldn’t be stressful, though. If something is difficult to understand in French, I can explain it in Japanese when needed. Alongside conversation, we work on listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar according to your goals. Rather than memorising grammar rules first, you discover and understand them naturally through real situations, texts, and communication.

Learning materials chosen for you

At Les Zamis, you generally don’t need to buy a specific textbook. Drawing on a wide range of materials and methods gathered over many years of teaching, I select what best suits you and also use original materials I have created when appropriate.

Rather than working through a single textbook from beginning to end, we choose what you need, when you need it, and build the lessons around you.

Interactive lessons that are easy to follow

We also use an interactive whiteboard during lessons. It allows us to work with illustrations, photos, audio, video, and online resources directly during the lesson, making learning clearer, more varied, and more engaging.

After each lesson, I send you the notes from the interactive whiteboard by email. This means you don’t have to rush to write everything down: you can focus on the conversation and the lesson, then review everything at your own pace at home.

Learn seriously, but stay relaxed

Making progress in French takes practice, of course. But that doesn’t mean lessons have to feel stressful. Over a cup of coffee or tea, in a relaxed atmosphere, you can talk, ask questions, make mistakes, and simply enjoy using French.

Even after more than 20 years of teaching French, what matters most to me remains very simple: listening to each person and helping them develop the French they truly need, together and at their own pace.
